Joseph Hankinson is Career Development Lecturer in English at Jesus College, University of Oxford, and Stipendiary Lecturer at The Queen’s College. He is the former Co-ordinator of the Oxford Comparative Criticism and Translation (OCCT) Research Centre, based at St Anne’s College, where he currently leads the ‘Comparative African Literatures’ Research Strand.

He has a DPhil in English from the University of Oxford, and teaches a range of undergraduate and graduate papers covering the texts and contexts of literature in English and Comparative Literature from the early nineteenth century to the present day, as well as approaches to criticism and theory.

He was a judge on the 2023 Oxford-Weidenfeld Prize for Literary Translation, and is a member of PELTA.

Joseph is the author of Kojo Laing, Robert Browning and Affiliative Criticism (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023), as well as a range of articles covering a broad interdisciplinary territory.
